Volunteers are the backbone of The Gud Ark. Your time and care directly support the nearly 400 rescued and rehabilitated animals here — whether you're helping with morning feeding rounds, evening check-ins, or a special project.
How to Get Started
Getting started is quick. Complete your waiver, schedule your first visit, and our team will take it from there.
Step 1: Schedule Your First Visit
Use our online booking form to reserve your first volunteer day. Volunteer spots fill up fast, especially on weekends.
Schedule my visit →Step 2: Complete the Waiver
Complete one waiver per person before your first day on-site for everyone volunteering or present on the property.
Complete the volunteer waiver →Step 3: Arrive at the Gate
Arrive at your scheduled date and time, then wait at the gate for a volunteer team member. Please do not enter on your own.
Important for minors: All minors must be accompanied by an adult on their first visit. Minors under age 8 must have a parent or guardian present at all times. A waiver must be completed for both the minor and their accompanying adult.
Volunteer Shift Times
We offer volunteer shifts year-round. Start times change with the seasons, and evening help is especially valuable for final water checks and nighttime setup.
Summer
5:00–6:00 AM · 2–3 hours
Feed, water, care for the animals, and help with general maintenance.
1–1.5 hours before sunset · About 1 hour
Top off water, check the animals, and make sure everyone is secured for the night.
Winter
Around 8:00 AM · 2–3 hours
Feed, water, clean up after the animals, and spend time with them.
1–1.5 hours before sunset · About 1 hour
Top off water, check the animals, and make sure everyone is in their proper place.
Evening shifts are needed. If you are available during evening hours, complete the waiver, then contact our Volunteer Coordinator to schedule your shift.
What to Bring
Water and Snacks
Bring plenty of water and snacks. A water refill station is available on-site.
Work Clothing
Wear weather-appropriate, older clothing that can handle dust, hay, and animal chores.
Closed-Toe Shoes
Choose sturdy closed-toe shoes. Easy slip-offs help because one animal building is a no-shoes area.
Sun Protection
Work gloves, a sun hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses are all strongly recommended.
Parking: Park parallel along the front fence of the property line. Please do not block the gate.
Day of: Text Ellese at (520) 510-3555 with your name and the word "Volunteer" then wait at the gate.
Other Ways to Help
If you have a skill or a project in mind that could benefit the sanctuary, we'd love to hear about it.
Group volunteers are welcome too. If you're bringing a team, contact us so we can coordinate.
